Abby Baker, Veterinary Assistant at Big Bear Veterinary Clinic

Abby Baker

"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." -Anatole France

Meet Abby

Abigail is originally from Loganville, Georgia and moved to Hayesville in 2022 to be closer to family. Growing up, Abigail always knew she wanted to work with animals, and she has always chased that goal, while trying to find her niche within the pet industry. First starting in pet retail, Abby continued to grow her animal care knowledge and eventually, she stumbled upon our clinic here in Hayesville, and she has not looked back since.

Abigail started working at Big Bear Vet in February 2023 as a veterinary assistant. Abigail quickly caught on to all things veterinary medicine and found her place working within the clinic setting at our practice. Abigail is not only passionate about helping our patients, but she is also passionate about teaching and helping others achieve their goals within the field. Due to her commitment to Big Bear Vet and our wonderful clients and patient's, in addition to her ability to be calm and teach under pressure, she was quickly recruited to be our Veterinary Team Lead and Senior Preceptor.

Throughout the day, you can find Abby training in rooms, surgery, on the road or anything in between. She knows the clinic like the back of her hand and her attitude and compassion are unmatched. Abigail is working everyday towards her Veterinary Technician License and is greatly appreciative of the mentorship and guidance of her DVMs and fellow veterinary assistants. Abigail’s favorite part of her day at work is watching her fellow teammates grow and master new skills as the senior preceptor of the clinic. As Abigail says, "there is no greater reward than watching someone fall in love with the job, just as she did". We are so lucky to have Abigail as part of our Big Bear Vet Team.

In her free time, Abigail spends her days with her husband Ty, and two dogs, Arya and Kora. Together they spend their time playing tennis ball, hiking, playing in the river, and playing more tennis ball.
