Meet Dr. Griswell
Dr. Shayna Griswell is originally from Gray, Georgia, but fell in love with the Hayesville area while here on her visit to our practice in the summer of 2025. She loved the rural environment and all that our beautiful mountain community has to offer, so she joined our team in October of 2025.
Growing up, Dr. Griswell was active in FFA during her high school years, which is what introduced her to her passion for large animal medicine. She also spent years working in various clinical environments, which has allowed her to easily transition into general mixed animal practice upon graduating.
Dr. Griswell is what is known as a “Double Dawg”, receiving both her bachelor’s degree in animal science, as well as her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia. During her time at the University of Georgia, Dr. Griswell developed a strong interest in Small Animal Cardiology as well as general wellness for both small and large animal patient’s.
Since being at Big Bear Vet, Dr. Griswell has found a new passion for soft tissue surgery procedures and loves being in the surgical suite. Dr. Griswell has plans to focus her continuing education on getting more experience with surgical cases in addition to cardiac work ups and ultrasound, which will provide our clients with more advanced care that may not otherwise be available in our rural area.
In Dr. Griswell’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her dogs Poppy and Prim, whether that be taking hikes or curling up on the couch with a good book. We are so thrilled to have Dr. Griswell as a part of our Veterinary Care Team.
